I had to go back to the dentist to get my lower bridge put back on because it had fallen out yesterday. I made the appointment myself which left me with butterflies. I knew that I wanted to do this step on my own. Even tho it was just a 5 minute thing…. it’s a step in getting there without sedation and sitting in the chair without sedation and letting him in my mouth without sedation.
On a scale of 1-10, my AA was pushing about 8. My hands were literally shaking, my mouth was dry and on the drive to the dentist I was beginning to get angry at myself for letting such a simple small minor thing get to me. My AA then dropped down to about a 4 or 5 but soon rose when I parked the car at the Dentists.
I walked up and started shaking and Dr. Nirav had me come in the room. He had me sit in the chair and I immediately told him I was very very nervous and that I’m upset that I am because I know it’s just a simple thing. He reassured me he wasn’t gonna do anything other than put more glue on the bridge and put it back on my lower teeth. He also had an intern or student watching him and he asked if he could take a look at my upper gums where I had the bone grafting. I said ok. So I laid back in the chair and he just gently lifted my upper lip to have a look at the healing process and said it was looking really good, that it had healed quite nicely.
He then did the lower bridge and pressed that back into place. I was relaxed by then. My AA was down to a 2. I was quite pleased with myself and going back to the car I wanted to cry because I had done it!!
He also told me that my next appointment will take about an hour and he’ll be putting two implants in my lower gums. That’s it. Easy! But I’ll still be sedated for that. I don’t think I’m ready to go without sedation just yet. Then he mentioned something about March where he’ll then have my two implants (teeth) put in and a proper partial that will look and fit much nicer. I can’t wait!!
So… I did it. Baby steps, but I did it!
